There are many reasons why schools around the world can find it challenging to support their neurodiverse students. If you're an educator these will be familiar to you:

  • Your school has a Learning Support Team but they're over-stretched with limited resources.

  • You have a neurodiverse student in your class, probably more than one, and the school has assigned you a well meaning TA with little or no knowledge of neurodiversity or best practices in support.

  • A child on your caseload requires an evaluation or ongoing support services from an Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist or Educational Psychologist but there are none in your area, or there are but they're fully booked. Depending on where you are in the world these professions may not even exist.

  • You need to advocate for support for a student and the family rejects any suggestions that their child may be experiencing difficulty or may be 'different'.

These are all barriers that can be alleviated or even removed entirely through my consultancy. I've lived and worked through all of these situations. It can be exhausting, frustrating, demoralising and sometimes feels hopeless. As educators we put all the responsibility for our students on our own shoulders. If help is not directly at hand in our schools or the local area we do the best we can with what we have, in the knowledge that it’s not enough. This is where I can help.

Rita Pierson puts is best: Every child deserves a champion. It’s hard to be someone’s champion when you have limited support around you. I’d like to help you be someone’s champion.
